The Alliance for African Assistance is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 in San Diego, California. The Alliance assists, by means of generous contributions and grants, newly arrived refugees in resettling in their new home-country and adjusting to American culture.
Since 2012, Alliance has operated the Home-Based Child Care Program and has assisted more than 80 refugees to become licensed Family Child Care providers. By supporting the applicants through the licensing process and providing the appropriate training to develop their technical skills, we prepare the newly licensed childcare providers to become self sufficient and productive members of their communities. This program is supported by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Throughout the program, refugees learn about California child care laws, regulations and licensing requirements, as well as about American cultural norms concerning child care and child development. In order to become a successful child care provider and manage and grow their businesses, all participants attend 48 hours of training in the following areas:
· Licensing Orientation
· CPR, First Aid & Preventive Health
· Financial Literacy
· Nutritional Program
· Working with parents
· Positive Discipline
· Introduction to Early Childhood Education
· Planning Learning Activities
· Records, Reporting & Forms
· Marketing Techniques
· Managing a Child Care Business
